I have trouble sleeping at night. I usually try to go to sleep at 11 pm but stay awake untill 2-3am at night lying on the bed untill I actually sleep. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get sleepy faster? I don't really want to take pills yet.

If you exercise more you will sleep more quickly and better at night.

Stress can lead to sleeplessness, try to eliminate as much stress in your life as is possible.

A healthy diet can help, as well as not eating a heavy meal later in the evening.

If you do not want to take sleeping pills you can try taking the natural sleeping aid called melatonin. Melatonin is naturally produced by the body as a natural sleep aid. Some people do not produce enough of it as they age, and their sleep pattern becomes disturbed.

They can be purchased in any health or vitimin section in a department store or market, as well as health food stores.

I have just started having similar problems. The difference being I fall asleep around 11 - 11.30 and wake up around 3.30. It is driving me mad. I don't want to take anything either. I have tried meditation which does help but still not getting the sleep i want. If i have a drink at the weekend ( even if it is just one or two glass ) I can sleep well but feel hungover in the morning even with just a few. If i don't drink I still feel hungover through the lack of sleep. Catch 22 situation. I have just stayed away from alcohol and just hoping for the best. Will give it another couple of weeks and if no improvement will go and see the doctor.

I have the same problem too. I read all the answers you got and I tryed everything like: p.m. pills, beer, reading a book, writing down my thoughts in paper, and drinking hot tea. Yet nothing works. I do have a lot on my mine, and do stress alot, but that has never been the problem before. I don't work but I do go to School (college) and yet the other day I help my mom out at work.(she has her own store were she sales used work clothes( and in the store the AC didn't work, so we were working in a big long building when it was 105 degrees out side. we were there from 9 a.m. till 4 p.m I haven't work so hard in that heat in years. So when I got home I was sooo tier that a fell sleep at 11p.m. and not at 3.a.m.

Try doing more exercising and eating a bit more (healthy foods) before you go to bed it will make you feel heavier and sleepy, and your body will sense this and maybye give you a break. Also try not to sleep in hot weather or somewhere with a lot of dust.
Also you may have insomnia, wich means you dont sleep well. It can be caused by stress, anxiety, sometimes fear.
And be careful not to drink cofee, soda, or sugar before you sleep. And if you think tea will help you , you have to be careful because some tea(s) containts caffeine wich makes you stay awake. Hope this helped.

P.S: Also if you think watching TV late helps... Well it doesnt it stimulates your brain wich makes it harder for you to sleep.
