I go to a private school and over the summer we have to do 300 math problems. Most of them were sort of easy, but there are a few I did but am unsure if I'm right.

8+4(3)²
______

(5)(-3)(5)
_______

3(-4²)
____
6 - 2.5

^^^_____= division line

A taxicab company charges each person a flat fee of $2.25 plus an additional $0.60 per quarter mile. (A)Write a formula to find the total cost for each fare. (B) Use the formula to find the cost for 1 person to travel 6 quarter miles.

THANKS.

You should be able to do these after previous help we have given you. We have already solved the last problem. Give us a specific problem that you are having when you tried to solve these.

(8 + 4(3)²)/(2²)

In order to solve this, first calculate the exponents:

(8 + 4(3)²)/(2²)
= (8 + 4(9))/(4) <== exponents calculated, 3² = 9, 2² = 4

Now multiply 4 and 9:

(8 + 4(9))/(4)
= (8 + 36)/(4)

Now add 8 and 36:

(8 + 36)/(4)
= (44)/(4)

Finally, divide 44 by 4 to obtain your answer:

(44)/(4)
= 11

This is your answer.

For the second question:

(5)(-3)(5)/(2²)

Use the same first step as before:

(5)(-3)(5)/(2²)
= (5)(-3)(5)/4

Now multiply 5 and -3:

(-15)(5)/4

Multiply -15 and 5:

(-75)/4

Now divide -75 and 4:

-18 3/4

This is your answer.

For the third problem:

3(-4²)/(6 - 2.5)

Use the same first step as usual:

3(16)/(6 - 2.5)

Now subtract 2.5 from 6:

3(16)/3.5

Multiply 16 and 3:

48/3.5

Finally, divide 48 and 3.5:

13 5/7

This is the answer.

For your word problem, a formula that will work would be:

2.25y + 0.60x = total fee, where x is how many quarter miles traveled and y is the number of persons.

Using this forumal, plug in the information given:

2.25(1) + 0.60(6) = total fee

Now multiply 2.25 by 1 and 0.60 by 6:

2.25 + 3.60 = total fee

Finally, add to find the total fee.

$5.85 = total fee

Hope this helps!

1) (8+4(9))/4
44/4
= 11
2) ((25)(-3))/4
= -75/4
3) (3(-16))/3.5
= -48/3.5
Because the square is only over the 4, the negative sign in front of the 4 is not squared. Therefore, the answer will be negative.
4) a) c=2.25p+0.60x
c= cost, p= number of people, x= number of quarter miles
b) c=$5.85

(8+4*3^2)/ (2^2) = (8+36)/(4) = 11

(5*-3*5)/(2^2) = -18.75

(3*(-4)^2)/(6-2.5) = 13.714

Cost = 2.25*P+0.60* D*4 D = miles traveled p= # of people

p=1 & d=6 miles cost = 5.85

[8 + 4(9)]/4 =
[2 + 9] =
11

-75/4 is second problem

3(16)/3.5 is third problem

Fare = F
F = 2.25p + $0.60x where x = distance in quarter mile lengths and p = number of people in the party

2.25(1) + 0.60(6)

you can crank the numbers
