PNAC, you didn't answer the question. Oh that's right, you don't ever answer the question asked.

Most Americans are not trying to survive on $7.00/hour. Most $7.00/hour jobs are supplemental incomes. If you must get by on this, you have to balance your bills and eliminate needless things (yes internet and phones are needless).

Also it may help to pick up another $7.00/hour job to further increase your income.

Well, I will need more information to answer it.
Are the parents each 16 years old?? BOTH parents work 40 hours a week at $7 an hour? (I thought min wage was $7.50, but anyway) OR they each make $3.50, so that is $7.00 per hour(Like a waitress, or hairdresser, that get tips)?
If there are cases where people need a LITTLE help for a little while, then help, by all means.
The issue I have is when you have 4 kids, all on welfare, and the welfare payments keep going up. You would not ask your boss for your raise because you have another kid. So why get more welfare for each kid.

You have to answer these questions; where do you live? (cost of living), what do the parents do? how far did they go in school?

There are more relevant questions but I will leave it at that for now.

The minimum wage is not designed to raise families on. It is an entry level wage for new workers. A typical worker normally gets a pay increase after 60 days. The employer has an opportunity to see how they will work out or not. How is government responsible for people making bad choices in their life? Anyone who graduates from school should be able to make more than minimum wage unless the whole area is depressed.
If a person has in him or her to suceed then minimum wage is not a concern. They will easily exceed expectations and make so much more.
A hypothetical for you; if $7.00 an hour is not enough why not make the minimum wage $15.00 an hour, or $20.00 an hour?

You should also know that many unions have their pay scaled tied to the minimum wage. For instance, a loading worker will make $15.00 an hour more that the current minimum wager. Raise the minimum wage and raise union wages automatically. That is why unions always support minimum wage increases.

First, I don't think there are many families working for that. Most people earning minimum wage are in temporary jobs, or are teenagers.

Second, if the person is wants to work for 7$/hr, and the employer wants to pay 7$/hr, then why should anyone else be involved.

From my experience, my wife came here from Brazil (legally), with no high school education, and began working in the supermarket deli. The turnover rate there was so high, that within 3 months she was offerd the position as manager, earning $16/hr. Also, with simple 3 month training programs, like doctor's office assitant courses, it is very easy to make $15/hr or more.

A family isn't supposed to survive on $7.00 an hour.

The minimium wage is not a wage that is supposed to support a family, it is a entry level wage for unskilled labor.

It is a wage for high school students or 18 year olds who just joined the work force with no skills.

Adults are supposed to have went to school for training, or have been trained and learned skills thru employment.

So by the time they get married and start a family, they are making alot more money.

You can't survive on that and that is how they want it. It means more money in their pockets. I guess I should make one thing clear, I am not talking about all conservatives. Not all conservatives are the same just like not all liberals are the same. That being said I will continue. Get ready because I can guarantee you will get answers attacking your beliefs and blaming you for what you earn. I would like to see those conservatives that don't believe in government assistance and that used any financial aid provided by the government to get through school, give it back.

You are talking about a combined income of 29,000 per year.
Thats not alot but a family of three isn't going to pay much in taxes either. It's a very tight budget, but it could be done.

The real answer is that both the mother and father need to do better. They can't both settle for a minimum wage job.

The question to you should be...How will that family be able to survive when the government takes more of that income for taxes, to fund programs that most of us would consider frivolous?

Also, how much money you make is a result of how you have planned your life, your education, chosen field, availability of jobs in your area. This is not a result of whether you are a liberal or conservative. Plan better in the future so that you may support your family.

When did our founders support a GIANT Nanny State?

Let the private sector help the needy thru charity.

Why create a Nanny State?

Get a higher education with government grants and programs. Work hard and get a raise. Find a higher paying job.
