I'm having my mechanic look at it, does anyone know a rough estimate for this? He does this as a side job but I would like to know some prices beforehand.

id say he,ll probably charge you around 75-100 bucks for this one ,if he gets a good price on the starter then he,ll give you a better deal ,and labor,no more than one hour to do this,at the most may be 150 ,good luck with it.

This is known as pasts hanging a simple chore for a mechanic. Hanging a starter on any vehicle should take under an hour. So search for Autozone an the web and find the price for yous starter. You will need the make (Toyota), model (Corolla), the year (1997), and whether it has A/C to find a price. Add that price to what you feel is fair for an hour of climbing under a car. anything orond $40 for labor would make him happy I'd think since it's a side job w/o taxes.

Let's not get the cart before the horse, first find out if it is indeed the starter. If it is, the costs will be the cost of the part (around $150), plus the labor rate per hour times the time it takes for the job. If you ask I'm sure he will give you an estimate before he starts on it.

ok listen to this, they have a repair kit to fix the contacts on that starter. this kits is usually 20 bucks roughly and I would charge about 50 to repair it. These starters do not go bad, the contacts wear out. this is true as long as it has the starter I am thinking of. Call a local starter rebuilding shop and ask them but you will need the numbers off of the starter.... hope this little info helps
