A man married a woman, and every night the woman would peel off her skin and fly away into the night. When she returned, she put her skin back on.

One night, the man found his wife's skin and put salt in it, so when she put it back on she screamed and burned.

It sounds like a folk tale. I've heard a lot of folk tales similar to this one. A common one is where the woman is a seal who gets out of her seal skin to be a woman at night. A man falls in love with her, steals her seal skin and she lives with him until she starts wasting away because she needs to be a seal. He eventually returns her skin to her. There is also a Native American (I think) tale about a woman who is a snake. She goes into her snake skin an night and wreaks havok. Then someone does something (I don't remember) to her snake skin and she is killed.
