its been proven that raising taxes on cigarettes discourages smoking. liberals are all in favor of raising taxes on gasoline to encourage public transportation and car-pooling in an effort to curb demand. a chicago city alderman wants to raise taxes on bottled water to cover the water and sewer budget shortfall and to save the environment.

so, if liberals can use those arguments as proof that raising taxes discourages a certain activity, then do liberals want you unemployed?

When Billy ran the show, my husband had 6 and could have worked 7 12-14 hour days at work. Now he has if lucky a 5 day 8 hour work week, but usually its 4 days. He is a computer programmer for factory work.
So, really NEXT dumb question.
Not ever starting smoking discourages it. I take care of people who have caught their faces on fire smoking with oxygen on and emphysema~ no one cares how much a pack costs once hooked.
I still see cars on the road with gas up to what is.
Taxes do not stop people from doing anything. But taxes like a paycheck, pays for needed services. something responsible adults with jobs realize.

More people are working more hours than ever before and they are receiving less in their take home pay. Both spouses now work full time and what do they have to show for it under the current administration of gwb? They know the truth, because they see it every time they get paid! if republicans were to actually work for a living they would know that as well, but since it escapes them, this is proof they're talking through their back sides!

You don't sound like the type who is familiar with Marx's Das Kapital. Still, maybe you can understand that the exploitation of workers on the hand of the capitalist engenders contempt for work. It is quite reasonable since in capitalism those who work most earn least and those who work least earn most.

Of course, those are dynamics which American propaganda has obscured for its denizens. DO pick up a copy of Capital and maybe get your self some self-respect. I assume you are a worker, defending the interests of the wealthy makes you little more than a whore.

by this logic raising taxes would discourage paying the government.. not working... and people don't really have much of a choice on that one :P

Liberals do want you unemployed...the more unemployed, the more depending on handouts--the more depending on handouts, the more promises the democrats can make--and the more votes they get from people who believe money comes from a printing press...

What's the matter? Worried that the tax is going to make a dent in the earnings on your oil company stock, and you'll have to (gasp) economize your lifestyle?

Wow, that is SOME derailed train of thought, there.

I don't understand the connection you're trying to draw between the cigarette tax and unemployment.
