I think it's in need of serious reform in two ways.

1. Everything is done as sound bites now. It's very difficult to capture a candidates record on the issues.

2. Money has completely corrupted politics. We need real campaign finance reform. Here's how it should work and it's very simple. Only US Citizens may contribute personal money or services to candidates, political parties or any entity that attempts to convince the public to vote for a candidate. That's it! No corporations, no unions, no professional organizations, no special interests, no foreign interests, nothing.

If you want to expand #2 a little bit, you can say special interests like the Sierra Club or NRA may do so, but only with money specifically donated by US Citizens. No dues from paychecks allowed.

I used to think they were boring... but not this time.
I think we might see a glass ceiling hit... if not broken though.

I am a republican and I sure wish we would see some diversity in our ranks like Obamma and Clinton are taking to the democrats. Look at it this way... they have brought out the best in compitetion.... look at the people who are in the line up... some would not be there if the big shots were not who they are. I really like hearing the ISSUES addressed for a change.

So far this pre-election I have not heard that droll old... "Anything but Bush" that the democrats chanted for the last two elections..... why in the world did they think that was a sane way to run a election to begin with? No wonder they got Bush!

I liked Bush for yrs. I got antsy when he did not allow legal representation to people locked up anywhere under US control... BUT I understand Bush was feeling a lot of pressure to protect us. I admire him standing up and taking a hold of thin gs even though some of his judgement calls might have been a little off... (hindsight only) At least he did not sit on his hands....
The democrats look entirely different this time... But give me a break... Would anyone out there really want former Vice President originally from TN (tennesseans did not even vote for him) to be in control when 9/11 hit ??? I mean he may have been destined to help with global warming but he is not Presidential material.
And who wanted a "French fries dipped in catsup" lesson from that last idiot who the democrats nominated to go against Bush.... So far as I have seen since the election... given the choices I had then... I choose the only way I could. And I got the best man for the job both elections.

But thank goodness the field is crowded and diverse and it looks like a real race this time!

Like anything else, it needs some changes. But most of those changes need to come from people and the attitude that the Govt. is responsible for making people's lives comfy and taking care of everything.

I can't understand why people are falling for the same failed Socialist programs and ideals yet again when they have proven to be unworkable failures in the past.

Sometimes it is good, other times it is not so good. Like anything controlled by man, the system has faults and foibles. But after having served all over the world, I can honestly say that I have found no other system that I would choose to live under. For all of its shortcommings, it still beats all of the available alternatives in my opinon.

It could definetly use some improvement but sometimes I wonder if the people at the capital would stop looking out for personal gain and start doing somthing for the people

I dont understand why it's so impossible to pass such needed laws and the people up there can't come to a compromise on a bill, "it has to be my way or no way"

Honestly, I think that the state they are in is a national embarassment. The candidates who, presumably, are intelligent people, cannot answer questions directly and show little respect for the voting public. They are more interested in saying the right thing than doing the right thing. The American people deserve better than they are getting...

As for the existing administration, they have done irrevocable damage to the reputation of the United States worldwide.

I've posted this answer several times in answer to other questions, this is my opinion.

American Politics in a nutshell:
Bob: Hey Jim, I kinda like the puppet on the left, what do you think?
Jim: I don't know Bob, I kinda like the puppet on the right.
Bob: Hey!! Wait a minute! Did you see that?
Jim: Yeah, Bob. It's the same guy holding both puppets!!!
FOX, CNN, ABC, etc.: Go back to sleep America, your government is in control...

Not much. It's a divided country right now. We have this huge us vs. them mentality which of course will solve absolutely nothing......it's sad.
