Notice the lier defending the practice like an alcoholic says they have no drinking problem?

The lies of the record are omission, denial and lying. The root cause can be put into two categories; want or weakness.

The reason people are confused, saying things like truth being relative, is that they do not understand what lying is. The connection to truth is all the see. What we are talking about is the record. In denial we escalate or skip over some part of the record to protect a weakness or for some advantage. When we lie we corrupt the record in other people for weakness or want, fear or desire. When we omit something we are not doing our duty to the record.

We need to foster the concept of the record. Having an accurate record in our personal lives and in our documented history, warts and all, serves us.

I think there are large numbers of people who do not lie. Enough to scare those who lie. I think you can count on Jesus.

A "lie" is something said that has partially or absolutely no truth in it. Thus, making it impossible for any human not to have ever lied somehow. It is just part of the human condition. which doesn't imply anyone should lie indiscriminately.
Pragmatically, some would consider a lie defined like the above, but adding awareness of the lack of truth on the teller's part. In this case it would still be extremely unlikely someone could live a lifetime without telling a lie. Even infants transmit false information to make extra gains. Not all babies' tears are due to pain or hunger. Some are loneliness some are whim...

The answer depends on how do we define a 'lie'. If it simply means that it is telling a thing which is not true, the question is what is 'true'? A thing can be true as well not true at the same time. There are different views about what happened or why happened. Some lies are told due to genuine ignorance and for good or bad purpose. The consequence of telling a lie may be serious or trivial. It is better we don't use the same word 'lie' to denote all - let us add an adjective or adverb to the lie we are talking about. May be we can approach the answer with this background. Better not to ask a sweeping generalized question or give such an answer.

Here is something to consider. All humans are basically born to lie. For self preservation, prevention or what ever. I do not think that there has ever been a person that has not lied. Small children lie for self preservation from a punishment or to try and hide what they have done. Conditioning is the only thing that happens to have us not lie. When we get older, that is when we learn it is bad and not to do it. The only reason small children are punished when they lie is because they are being punished by older people who have also been punished.

So, no, there is no one in the world that has not lied and the reason why people lie is for self preservation or avoidance of a penalty.

There are as many reasons to lie as there are stars in the sky and each and every one when viewed in the right way will demand a lie. Truth is more of an intention or attitude then fact. Attitudes seam to have an awful lot to do with mood and people are crazy moody so peoples levels of honesty will very from day to day hour to hour situation to situation.

It is not possible to not tell a lie in a lifetime. Weather we withhold information or fail to inform when a need is there or simply remember things in a cretin light we are doomed to misinform in our communications.

Everyone tells lies. Men and women. The problem is what is the lie and is it really that important or is it just a little white lie to prevent arguments.

There are many different kinds of lies, so much depends on what you mean by a "lie".

There are lies of omission, lies of perception, and intentional lies.
Under the category of intentional lies, there is the "white lie" the "saving peoples' feelings lie", and the out and out "self gain lie".

I you are human, you will be lieing under most of these categories, just part of the human condition.
