Where exactly is Valinor located? Is it possible for a human to stumble upon it and return to tell the tale? I seem to remember that it was far to the west of Middle Earth and that mortals would get lost in some giant ocean, but if they managed to find there way like a lost sailor or something they would die at the mere sight of it? Thanks.

The detail that Tolkien put into creating this history is just incredible.

Valinor was indeed a continent far to the West, but it was surrounded by various protective measures, such as the Enchanted Isles (which would ensnare sailors), mountain ranges, and a vast sheet of ice. Most of this was to keep out Morgoth and his evil servants.

Eventually it was "risen" so that it no longer existed on the same physical plane as Middle-Earth. The elves could reach there only by a certain path and special ships; very few outsiders were permitted to join them.
