You can't convert it for free (that I know of) to AVI.
However, you CAN "download" a YouTube video by downloading the latest free RealPlayer (www.real.com). It allows you to "save" any Flash Video (which is how YouTube delivers it's content) to your hard drive as a Flash File.
Then, you can play it using RealPlayer directly from your hard drive.

This isnt too hard to do.
youtube uses streaming flash, which means it downloads pieces of the video at a time in a format that only flash can understand and render.
But there are lots of streaming recorder apps out there, I suggest you use one of those.

hi joe, i hit upon zillatube downloads and converts movies comfortably... it helps a lot of conversion codecs too for various contraptions. only google seek for 'zillatube' ==========================???
