Ask them about "Deferred Prosecution". This is a class (It is available in Washington state" that kids can take, and if they do not get in trouble again before they are 18 it is wiped off their record like it never happened, BUT the store he stole from most likely will not allow him in the store without a parent or guardian with him. This happened with my step-son when he was with a friend that was shoplifting. My step-son only accepted a lighter his friend had stolen and they were both arrested, but they took the class.

the main extreme rule whilst accused with against the regulation is in no way talk approximately it, different than including your criminal expert. theft grow to be accomplished once you exited the shop and for this reason the criminal act with the criminal ideas are the two aspects in regulation thought needed to characterize the crime. regrettably there is not any longer lots of a defence if the cameras recorded you removing the products from that's perch and you strolling, then working out the shop. Or if a witness observed you do away with the item or products and without loosing sight of you, observed you go out the shop. additionally you could value whoever touched and manhandled you with attack. The regulation swings the two procedures.

He should dress NEATLY ! NOT in pants that look like they're going to fall off. Nice pants and shirt, and maybe a tie. Talk to the judge in a "yes your honor, no your honor" manner. You're in their court and should play by their rules. A macho attitude will get him in more trouble. Most likely he'll just get probation.

if he's under 18 there's nothing to worry about. Make sure he looks very sorry and make sure you show the courts how angry you are at him. This will go over well with the magistate because it looks like you two are already the situation and the boy's learned his lesson.
