I used to keep a journal, and now I look back and laugh at how young and dramatic I sounded. It's good and bad... and up to you!

I used to keep a diary and I did look back at it from time to time,. You say there is no reason to look back at the past but you are so wrong thinking that. The past is what makes our future. Everything that you do in life has some effect on what you do in the future. Think about it you write in your diary that you had this bad experience. While you are going through this experience you don't know the outcome but you continue to write in the diary. A few months down the road or even a year later you look back at your diary and you can say wow that wasnt as bad as I thought it was and look and what I have done since then. Or you can see how going through that experience has made you the stronger person that you are today.

Yeah, I kinda keep a diary and a public blog. On the blog, I just write about stuff that is bothering me, or something that I just thought was interesting. I don't care if anyone sees those, and I sometimes go back and read them. In the diary, I only write in it every few months, and it's usually about something that I'm angry about. I've gone back and read those, seeing how ridiculous I sounded, and how I've changed since then. I mean, what you write about may not have meaning to others, but it's going to have meaning to you no matter how ordinary it may seem.

I did not keep a regular diary - but now wish I had.
It not a matter of looking back at the past but being able to see how things have changed for you. How different things are now important for you. Enjoying memories of good times in your life. Remembering the strength you showed in working through the rough times. And sometimes it a way of remembering why you did something. Remembrances of the early years with a life partner can help you remember what it is about him/her that you love. Those memories can help you get through touch times in the present.

Keeping a diary is an excellent idea. It can help in so many ways.
It can make you look at things objectively and see if there is something
that you need to change. I did that years ago and finally got the courage
to confront my dad for the way that he treated me and still treats me.
I am 66 and he still thinks he can rip me up one side and down the other. He got a rude awakening.

Writing a diary is a good idea. I've had less stress since I started a journal; just a good place to vent. And if you don't feel like reading through the past, just...Burn it when you are done or something.

I used to do a lot of personal writing (not actually a diary; more like a "thoughts column"), but I got into alot of trouble when someone stole it & read it.

When I'm really really sad or really really mad about something, I have this one diary I keep in my nightstand drawyer and write in it only when I'm super upset. I've read it at some points, and some of it is actually a good laugh now that enough time has passed.

I find that keeping a diary is quite pointless unless you plan to publish your memoirs sometime in the future.... i already know what i did yesterday and today and a week ago and a month ago, and 2years ago, when i was sad when i was happy, when i was hurt... when i had a fight...etc.... personal stuff .... when i was inlove.... who i went out with..etc.... do i realy need to write it down on a piece of paper everyday ??

Ya. I did that since I was 21. I used to keep them until one day I saw someone spying. Then, I only keep a few copies of the preceding year for reference if need be. Quite useful. Yes, I read it back all the time. I am quite careful though, I used my own codes and shortforms.
