Yep. And guess which movement is the primary supporter of contraception. Check out the fourth paragraph in particular.

The same groups would gladly suck the brains of an unborn person out of their head. Pregnancy prevention yes, murder no.

There's also evidence that the availability of birth control INCREASES the number of unwanted pregnancies, because people will engage in sex more and therefore there will be more pregnancies as birth control fails, or is not used from time to time.

Sometimes "changing the rules" changes behavior.

Abstinence is 100% effective, every time it's employed.

It's also possible that the availibility of legalized abortion has INCREASED the incidence of single parenthood, for many reasons. Again, more people having more sex because the risk of an unwanted child being born is theoretically lower, coupled with women deciding against abortions even though they are available and finally an attitude that the father should not be responsible just because the woman "didn't take care of the problem."

PS None of this is my business UNLESS I'm asked to pay taxes for these unwanted children, or to otherwise suffer the consequences of those growing up in a single-parent home, who are disproportionately represented on our welfare rolls and in our prisons.

It is very true that absitnance is, undoubtedly, the best way to prevent unwanted pregnancy. But let's try to be realistic here. People like sex. People will have sex. Trying to stop that is like trying to stop a tsunami, except maybe a bit harder. So stop living in lala land, and get out there and support anyone and everyone who is advocating better forms of birth control.
If you don't like abortion, then get off your self righteous, moralistic high horse, and understand that you are not going to stop people from having sex. Get your daughter on the pill, get your son a box of condoms. Talk to them about responsibility and consequences. Don't lecture them about the evils of sex..it only makes them more curious. A healthy dose of " you really should wait till you are older" cant hurt, but just in case, make sure that when they get those urges, and they cant (or dont want to) control them, that there is ALWAYS a condom or some other form of BC within reach.

I have to agree... it doesn't make sense to me that those that are pro-life would not support Education and Protection in such a way that it could vastly reduce the number of abortions... And while I'm certain it's not all of them... that doesn't make those that are like this seem any more rational to me.

and for the abstinence only people... abstinence is a great idea.. but it's not practical MOST of the time... no matter how much you teach it.. hormones are going to take over and people are going to have sex.. so you have to teach prevention as well... teaching them both is fine by me.. but you can't be exclusive.. it's not practical.

The history of failure is littered with great ideas and good intentions.

Huffington isn't really a reliable source of data, sorry. But to answer your question no, there are lots of things that cut down on Abortions. Contraception (unless it fails), Adoption, Abstinence, Sex Education, and Plan B are all fine examples.

that, and sex ed. Same party endorses both. In fact, since Clinton said that abortion should be safe, legal, and rare, the abortion rate has gone down, as well as the teen pregnancy rate and the divorce rate. ALL of these are higher in red states. Since abstinence only education was endorsed by Bush, the teen pregnancy rate and the abortion rates have gone UP. Plan B was ALSO endorsed and fought for by the dems. In fact, they refused to swear in the new justices until the old ones voted on Plan B...

No it isn't. Abstinence cuts down not only on unwanted babies but ALL STDs!

No contraceptive in the world can save you from any of those things, but keeping your legs closed and your pants zipped can.

Abortions are like breast implants:

If you don't like 'em, don't get 'em....

I can't believe the folks who adamantly concern themselves with the actions of others are often the same folks folks who cringe at the thought of single-payer health insurance...
