Dragon Quest 8 is one of my favorite games. If you like turn based RPGs, this is a must-have. It has a fun, epic, and even sometimes humorous storyline. You can create great weapons and armor using "the alchemy pot". And this game has a great, old-school feel. There are many hours of gameplay, considering not only does this game have two different endings, it also has "The Dragovian Trials" to add even more hours of fun.

Yes definetely. Dragon Quest VIII is a great game especially if you have played the other dragon warrior games for gameboy color. This game has beautiful graphics, a turn by turn classic rpg battle system. There are lots of weapons and different skills. Once you beat the game you will want to play it again! There are plenty of cool side quests to do and lots of secrets. You can spend more than 10 hours trying to get off the first continent! There over 200 monsters to train on and over 200 weapons and armors to choose from. Although if you are under 13 you might want to reconsider it....

Dragon Quest VIII is fantastic if you love the old Dragon Quest games. Bear in mind, at times it's a bit of a grind fest - you have to level like mad. Then again, that's a hallmark of the DQ series.
I enjoyed it alot - the weapon fusion added alot to the game, and its flow was pretty good.
Also, I was happy to see that even in the days where even mainstream console RPGs are using battle systems like MMORPGs, that some games keep with their roots.
Also, if you're interested in Dragon Quest, you may wanna pick up a Nintendo DS soon - the next installment of Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest IX will be coming out for the DS and the DS alone.
Enjoy Dragon Quest VIII, man.

It's an absolutely incredible game. But, like Steven W said, it can be tough at times, because it is very old-school at times in it's presentation and style. Random encounters can be really quite tough. But little compares to the sense of satisfaction you get as you progress through this game - seriously, it's a joy to play, and the story is great. Playing through it is a blast, and it's a massive adventure, which will keep you occupied for at least 40 hours. I'm at about 67, and still have plenty of stuff to do. Get it. It's fantastic.
