Economic growth is not a zero sum game or a contest to see who is ahead. The major way that the growth in China effects our standard of living is that they will drive up the price of limited resources, mostly oil. This leads to the obvious answer that we need to become more energy efficient, especially in our use of oil, so our total expenditures on oil does not increase as the prices rises, and we can continue to purchase the other goods we want.
