Im a person that has always been shy and quiet. I am the only child and my mother was over protective of me. So when im around people i dont know I clam up and get really quiet. One time at orientation at my new school this girl asked me why am i so quiet. I said because im around ppl i dont know and its a bad habit. She was like ohh ok i though u was conceited. im like, no im not, im farrrrr from that. Whats up wit that. I still tryin to break out that mold but its really hard. but conceited? stuck up? why?

I dont know why some ppl would think that all because u quiet u conceited...do u?

because kids who are not shy have no idea what it means to feel awkward in social situations.
so perhaps some of these people will think you are conceited instead of just quiet and shy...
the conceited people i used to know back in the old days when i went to hight school were anything but quiet! they were usually boisterous and stuck their noses up into the air around those who they felt were lower than them on the food chain...

Well, here is the deal. When people are reserved and quiet it is often mistaken for having a holier than thou attitude. Meaning people think you are too good to talk to them. Most of the time that is simply not the case, but in this day and age, when everything is so open and out there, it is unusual for a young woman to be quiet and reserved.
Dont worry about them just yet, as you may already know it takes time for people to get used to each other, to learn and accept who we are. It'll happen, it just takes a little longer in some cases than others.
A good hint might be to get involved in a group, project, or affiliate yourself with an organization that interests you. THat way you already have a basis to work from. Not everyone can generate a friendship out of thin air,... but everyone can have something in common with some one else.

I didnt know that shy ppl were concieted? Usually when ppl are concieted they brag to the world therefore there is no way that shy ppl are concieted
