I agree. Enact strict tariffs on certain goods, which will make it cheaper to produce those goods in the US.
It's time to cut off China before they decide that its in their best interest to topple the world's remaining superpower.
Regardless of the damage it will do to our economy.
What do you prefer? A little pain now or massive pain later? Take your pick.

It's a political problem more than anything, the logic is that is better to have them on our side than against us, plus that relationship allow the US ask them for "political favor" when they need a powerful ally in that part of the World.
Second don't dream about those jobs coming back to the US. if it's not China it will be any third World country because US corporations don't like to pay US salary to US workers. In Mexico for example a US plant only would pay cents per hour instead of dollars per hour (almost slave labour).

I try never to buy anything made in china, not just because of the recent problems, I knew for years they had high levels of lead in their paint. But more because every penny of profit they make, goes directly to the military, which is gearing up to be the largets and best equipt military force in the world. They have long range plans that don't bode well for the rest of us.
As for why the government won't stop trading with them? It would bankrupt the country for one thing, plus the chinese own so much of the business in our country, they, like the japanese have been buying up property and corporations on the side for many years.
Plus, then the greedy politicians like Bill Clinton would lose out on the millions of dollars they got from China for special favors.

Do you really think these jobs would come back to us? What about India? Mexico? Eastern Europe? While I do not purchase anything made in China myself, I have to hand it to the Chinese, that they are aggressively addressing this issues, and understand the seriousness of the situation. Our economy is almost twice what theirs is and they do not want to lose that. I think in the interim we need to go to 100% QC on our side until they get it worked out.

Because we would collapse our own economy in the process. Like it or not, China and the U.S. are tied together at the foot . . . However, kudos to you for making the effort to not buy Chinese.
