Hello,

(ANS) There is some evidence from ancient stone circles such as Stone henge and Avebury, that stone age and neolithic man worshiped the power of the sun and moon and stars as gods & goddess's, or as independent external powers (i.e. beyond direct human control, that mans fate was down to the gods & goddess's being kept in a good mood otherwise disaster would strike).

And that the sun & moon influenced the mother earth and by influence how good or bad the crops and harvests would be. Hence how much food there would be to store up for winter and to survival through the hard winter months & months of darkness, the lean times of the year.

So this type of worship was related to the fertility of the earth which was perceived as a mother or female power. Also fertility of the animals & the fertility of human beings too.

They still ARE magical!

Most people have "lost" the magic these days though and themoon and stars are harder to see through the polluted skies of cities, which are lit up by electric lights on every street.

Go out into the country, away from the smog and then look up and you'll see what those ancients seen.

Many Cultures thought of them as deities. Or Ancestors to guide then in their Journeys and vision quests. To Native Americans everything has a spirit. Hence the terms Mother earth, Father Sun, Sister moon etc.

Ancient man was more intelligent than we give him credit. It takes some working out that certain stars are always in the same position relative to one another and some always point in the same direction.

Aztecs actually thought that the sun was the center of the universe, and we revolved around the sun.
Other cultures such as the Greek, Roman, etc. used these astronomical bodies to mark time and location .
