space isnt really black if you think about it. It takes reflection to show off the different light. There is tons of light in space, which gives you the ability to see a meteor floating by, or a planet, or the moon or earth, or the space shuttle, things that do not create light themselves but reflect it.
If you think about a dark room, it is black because no light is entering it, a pitch black room there is no light at all, and you cant see anything. In space you can see the space shuttle if you were outside of it, because the light from stars reflects off of it. Color is created through refraction of light, when there is nothing for the light to refract off of it, you dont see any color thus is looks black.

Space is black because what we see from space is emitted light . If there are no bodies emitting light then we simply do not observe them. The light which we see has a particular frequency associated with it ,within the visible region. If no light reaches our eyes within the visible region there will be lack of light and thats why we see blackness in space.

It is proof that the universe started at the big bang and is expanding. If the universe was always here and infinite there would be a star at every single point in space and the sky would be light at night. It is black due to the fact that there is no star in every single direction. At least the light has not reached us yet.

Space doesn't have a color. Color is a function of reflected light. Space is vacuum. Vacuum is the absence of matter. For light to reflect off matter, the matter has to be there to begin with. What you are perceiving as the "color" black is, in fact, your eye telling you that there is no light being reflected to you from space.

As space is a hard vacuum, there is no local atmosphere to absorb visible light. The reason the sky is blue, for example, is because the various atmosphereic components absorb all colors of visible light EXCEPT blue, which they reflect - giving us a pretty blue sky.

It's black because of the absence of light in the visible spectrum. It's not truly "black" though, because the moment you consider non-visible bands of the electromagnetic spectrum, you will see that the cosmos is brimming with something known as "background radiation" in the microwave range.

Because there is nothing for the light to be reflected off and to land on, if you're on a planet then it may be light because the light has landed and is being reflected.

The space is not black. You sight can only catch or see to a certain limit beyond which you can't see and so it turns dark on you.
