To everyone that says something to the effect "get a job" seems like such a pat answer.
What do we know about this single mother of two.
Maybe she could be sucking off the "big tit" unnecessarily and if you aren't please don't take it personally.
She may already have two jobs barely paying above minimum wage.
Do you think anyone can raise two kids on that?
She is asking for assistance for what her ex would of otherwise been responsible for.
Gawd, you think she didn't already think of that?
Sorry can't answer your question effectively since all states are different and I don't know where you live.
But Good Luck 2U!

Yea, it's amazing how horrible some people can be isn't it!! I'm in the same situation, have a job, am not a f**kup (as someone called you). I'd love to see these people who are belittling you survive as a single parent to 2 children with absolutely no help...quick to judge.
I contacted my state Family Support office and was informed that since he was imprisoned for more than 1 year that they would not provide any support. So your best bet is to check into food stamps, family assistance, childcare assistance, etc...Unless you make too much money you should be able to qualify for at least some assistance.
Good Luck!

I am sorry for all the negative answers you are getting. I'm sure it's not easy and I'm sure you didn't ask for the kind of life your ex-husband had and brought on your family. You should go to your local welfare office and see what kind of help you can get from them, at least until you are capable of making it on your own two feet. Also, I would suggest that you start looking for a job so you can support yourself and your kids.
You can also go back to school - there are programs available that will help pay for the tuition.
Good Luck.

First of all, if you don't have a job then you need to try and get one. If you want to apply for food stamps, you have to be earning some kind of income. They don't help people that don't try and help theirselves. Make an appointment with your local welfare office and they should get you the help you need. Also, if you are in need of housing, you might be able to check into apartments that are based on income and may qualify for free rent.

Open up the blue pages of your telephone book and go to your county/state social services division. Call and make an appointment. Take pen and paper with you. Also they may have a website devoted to this kind of thing. Check to see.

I cant believe how many people are being so rude to you. you were MARRIED to the guy. and its not your fault HE'S the **** up and is in jail. Anyways, you can try going to Children and Families. They's probably know something. You could try for cash assistance, but they'd only give you $300 a month, and you can't make more than that a month yourself. it's BS i don't know how they'd expect people to live.

I am sorry you are responsible for your children. Not the state. You can get food stamps and medical for your children. But, you are going to have to get a job and pay for housing and what not.

You should divorce your husband so you might have a chance at a real relationship first off.
To answer your question...I don't know if you work or not, but the county should have an Aid to families with dependent children...welfare department...I would start there to see what kind of help they can give you. They can also refer you to other agencies that might be able to give you help.
be cool...
