I always thought this was a taboo subject so I never brought it up. It seems to be fairly common and has been around since organized religion mandated marriage or whatever. It also becomes more intense after the children are grown and out of the home; you discover you are living with a stranger. By this time there are grandchildren you don't want to cause any upset to. Find an interesting hobby that consumes your thoughts and time; and observe that your spouse has done likewise. I find it amusing that the same problem exists for both spouses and they seem to address it in the same way. I don't know if this is human development or exactly what it is.

It is worse to be ALONE in a marriage then to be ALONE.....it is the worst most lonely feeling on the planet. Why divorce is not an option when two people are not in love anymore?

First of all you are ASSUMING he seems so alone. Do you know this man on a personal level? Has he come to you about this so called loveless marriage? Unless he (or his wife) are close friends of yours...STAY OUT OF IT
For all you know he could be very happy in his marriage and it could be full of love and he's just having a bad day, week, month whatever...maybe he and his wife are going threw a rocky period, maybe he seems alone cause his wife is not there with him.. There are so many things and unless you know for sure because your close friends and he's told you you relly need to just mind your own business with this one.
Sorry I know my answer seems harsh, but you can't just go around sticking your nose into other people's marriages! Maybe it is loveless, maybe its just convenience, maybe they are just there for the kids or honestly who freakin knows?? Let them work it out oon there own..Again I say STAY OUT OF IT!!!

Well, this person needs to have a sitdown with his significant other and open up (communicate) with the other. He needs to let the other know that he's unhappy and what the problem could be. I am like that sometimes with my hubby. We are struggling to keep our marriage going because neither of us want to be apart. Now, I am starting to talk to him about stuff and it is helping. Maybe he can try this too !

If this is a marriage of convenience, then it does make sense. Sometimes you need to understand the couple's situation before you can come to a conclusion. Sounds like a contract to me. No love necessary, no sex, no intimacy, nothing. Yes, there are others in the same situation too.

It sucks. Divorce is always an option when a person isn't happy, otherwise they will suffer for the rest of their lives.
