I can remove the poo itself but have noticed that there is a very faint mark left where it has been. I have tried polish and so on but nothing seems to remove it. Can anyone help?

A lot of polishing with elbow grease will clean it up. Use a color match polish if possible. The best trick is to keep the car well waxed and remove poo asap. I keep a mini cleaning kit ( bottle soapy water, mini tub of polish and rags)in the boot for just this purpose

Try Turtle Wax Platinum Series Colour Restorer. Not so abrasive as T-Cut, which can leave swirl marks if you're not careful. Then a good wax polish to help prevent future marking. And as others have said, remove the poo ASAP, or the acid will burn!

The main thing to remember is that bird poo is very acidic. It needs to be washed off the paint on your car as soon as possible. If you let it sit, then its going to start eating into the paint, and leave that mark you describe. Wax is really abotu the only thing you can do. Make sure that the car is well waxed before the bird poop ever hits it, and then do it again if it does leave a mark. Good luck.

The acid from the bird dropping has eaten in to the paint finish slightly.
Take the car to a good bodywork shop and they can use a technique called "mopping" which will soften the paint and redistribute it so as to cover the mark.
Alternatively you can try to "T-Cut" the mark out and then polish the area.
The first option is best for metallic finishes, the second for plain colours.
