Not factoring in the higher cost of Diesel cars, but factoring in the differences in fuel prices between Diesel and Gas, are Diesels more fuel efficient?

i just did a detailed report for my boss on chevy diesels and chevy gas trucks, i included prices of fuel filters, air filters, brakes, oil changes, and all other service work, i found that diesels were cheaper on fuel, but after all the other stuff it was pretty much a wash, but the diesels handle the work better, therefore we would get more life out of the truck

Diesel powered vehicles are always more "fuel efficient." What you are asking about is "Cost efficiency," and yes, when you consider only operating costs, diesel powered cars are more cost efficient than the same car with a gasoline powered engine.

In an automobile application yes they are but from a truck stand point there not but they offer better towing capabilities

think of it this way,do you like noise and smell,because they are terrible in that sense
