Today, when using Internet Explorer, my Mcafee scan popped up displaying - C:\windows\system\svchest.exe is infected by the new malware.j trojan and cannot be cleared. I immediately quarantined it. Will it still remain on my disk ? How do I remove it ? Mcafee quarantined list shows the file svchest.exe but on deleting it shows that file doesn't contain virus ? My Mcafee susbscription has expired ? how do i know malware has been removed ? please help
Can I install AVG Antivirus inspite of having Mcafee Virus scan already installed in my PC. ? and then again scan for the malware using AVG antivirus ?

When McAfee is unable to clean a virus, it usually means that the file it needed to delete was "in use". That means the virus was running. When you quarantine a file, it prevents that file from ever being loaded again. So the next time you start your computer, the file will not be "in use", and McAfee will be able to delete it. So you did the right thing by quaranteeing the file.

I would recommend that you reboot your computer in Safe Mode. (Turn it on a immediately begin to press and release the f8 key until you get a screen with the Safe Mode option). When a cimputer is in Safe Mode, it only loads the minimum files needed to start Windows. Nothing else is loaded, so nothing else is "in use". Run the Virus Scan in Safe Mode and it will be able to clean everything.

it is safe to remove any anti-virus tools before installing another one. check your quarantine listing within Mcafee and try to set action to delete the file, if it doesn't work why not try to renew you Mcafee subscription to ensure that the quarantined file be kept away from your system. qauarantined files will still be there on the system but cannot work normally, i suggest to renew the subscription, renew virus defenitions and run a full system scan.

McAfee will qurantine it and it will not be able to run on your system. Go to the file name that you provided , use the run or search feature to do this and check if you can delete it
