It could be an internal problem with the transmission, or it could be a problem with the shifter linkage. Assuming it is an automatic transmission, check the fluid level, and see if the fluid is red (good) or brown and burnt (bad).

Try shifting into low, and see if the car will move!

Usually reverse will go out first if the transmission is going bad!

If you have a manual transmission, it could be the clutch slipping (reverse is a lower gear so the car might move only in reverse) linkage, or again an internal problem!

Have the car checked by a qualified transmission specialist!

well check the fluid first, if its low add some to the full mark when it is at operating temp. then see but most likely its time for a trans rebuild

Check the fluid first off.

Then I would say that it is the torque converter

it could be a chip hat was fried same it happened to me wouldnt go in 2nd
