i think your engine is 4.3 and you need to replace lifters only. There is no such a thing adjusting valve lash on any chevy car or truck in 2000.if you have 4.3 v6 the engine is bullet proof and will go 300000 miles with some care.

In 2000 this was the first year for the LS1 type of engine in trucks and there is no adjustment to be made on the lifters. If it does this primarily when the engine is cold and idling, it is most likely the pistons. GM recommends using Mobil One 5W30 weight oil as this does help the problem. You need to remember this engine has a hydraulic roller cam and lifters installed at the factory.

Adjusting the "lash" is probably your best bet. In some cases it may not be a collapsing lifter. It can also be from excessive cam lobe wear. Check the oil pump pressure for starters! Good luck! ;-)=

you didn't say what engine you have, if its a v8, 90% of the time piston slap is mistaked for lifters on these engines, piston slap is normal, i've only replaced one set of lifters on a newer silverado and i believe it was a 99 with a 5.7, but its always cheaper to fix it, than replace it, but sometimes its worth the extra money to rebuild

If you replace the valves you have to replace the camshaft also. May be more beneficial to rebuild engine if you plan to keep it for a long time.
