First off there isn't any major "White" culture. The dominent culture in the US and Europe is a mixture of influences from all over the world. The base of the culture is Northern European with it's Roman roots quite exposed.

"Black" culture is another misnomer. I've known Black Bikers, Black Rednecks, Black intellectuals and so on. What is commonly refered to as Black culture is Ghetto culture though large numbers of Whites and Hispanics also subscribe to this culture.

So if your question is what is the difference between American culture and Ghetto culture, here are the main differences.

American culture values education, science and math especially. Has strong literary roots. Espouses a strong work ethic and the American dream. The American dream defined as; If you work hard enough and play by the rules you'll better yours and your children's situation. If you have a good idea, get lucky or work hard enough then wealth and fame are obtainable no matter where you were born and what economic background you have.

American culture considered barbaric by some European and Asian cultures values respect a great deal when compared to Ghetto culture. Getting over on people is highly praised in Ghetto culture. Children are taught at a young age in Ghetto culture to hustle at any chance. To get everything you can from any situation. American culture is more based on the concept of treat others like you would like to be treated. So hustlers tend to have a shady rep in American culture if they cross invisible lines and take advantage of people.

American culture inherited the strong respect for women that came from Celtic society. It was America that women's rights were reborn. The centuries of oppression against women that came with Roman influences ended in the 1800s in the US. Chivalry is considered not only correct but expected of men in base American culture, though many subcultures have long since lost all chivalry. Ghetto culture encourages "stables". Male Ghetto culture almost implies you are not a man if you do not take every opportunity to have sex that comes your way. Hitting women is perfectly acceptable in Ghetto culture. There are very strong taboos against it in most American sub cultures and strict enforcement as a whole.

Ghetto culture strongly emphasizes race and religion as a large part of your self idenity. American culture all but ignores race and religion and suppresses most expression of such, considering it rude and tasteless. Religion in American culture is expected to stay within very well defined contexts. Who you are is defined by your interests, achievements and the company you keep in American culture. Accidents of birth are not considered a core part of who you are.

Ghetto culture emphasizes loud and flashy. To people of American culture this is obnoxious and loud and flashy people are considered plastic people. The opposite is valued in Ghetto culture. You wear everything on your sleeve in Ghetto culture. The fact that there is only so much sleeve means that you are self limiting yourself if you have to display who you are in clothing and loud talk. Action is considered the best means to express yourself in ideal American culture. While many fail to be what they say, people who boast loudly are distrusted and considered inept. In Ghetto culture expects exagerated boasting and takes nothing said at face value.

As to why there are problems between the cultures, it is because the two cultures are dimetrically opposed in many important areas and this makes co-existence difficult. This has been greatly aggravated in recent years as many people are no longer "American" at all but fully members of some sub-culture or another completely rejecting American culture lock stock and barrel. No nation can stand long without a unifying culture. That is what overrides differences when working on joint efforts, co-using the same resources and if something goes wrong there has to be a common thread that helps us rise above petty differences and unite to deal with some problem, danger or foe. Anybody who thinks of themselves as something before American fractures this nationality. Leaves us vulnerable and divided. It also induces conflict where none need be.

I'm not sure what selfish has to do with race. There are selfish people of all creeds, races, economic backgrounds and such. Ghetto culture actually rejoices in selfishness as does many American sub cultures. Both political parties push Americans to be selfish. They frame it in different ways but the message is the same. Our media glorifies selfish behavior. So the short answer is we are taught to be selfish.

In the context of race I'm guessing you mean why do people think only skin deep and consider their own color, religion, economic group or other divider as superior to others. The answer is it's natural to be proud of who you are. If you DON"T think your group whatever it is is the best then it's time to change groups. While it's natural to feel this way American culture introduced tolerance. A concept that had pretty much disapeared from the world shortly after Islam took over the Arab world. Until the US arose few nations over the last 1,000 years were tolerant of much of anything. Religion, social class, rules and regs. If you were not in the "in" group you could have everything you own stolen. You could be executed merely for being a member of X group. It was one of the reasons why many people came to America was to escape such behavior. We then exported these ideas to the rest of the world. So America is as good as it gets, as good as it's ever been. That doesn't mean it cannot get better but far as I can tell it's getting much worse each day. The decline of American culture and the divisive political parties are eating into the roots of tolerance and poisoning them. We are all our own victims in this. The more we allow it too happen the more we'll suffer for it. The more we suffer the more we will buy into idiots up there telling us how they'll protect us from ourselves. Rich or poor, religious or non-religious. Born here or elsewhere. Long as we take up America as our nation we are all brothers. The second we put something before America we are born enemies. The choice is ours.

The difference between black and white is this. The words on a computer screen, the keys of a piano, the chalk board at school, the most important ball on the Que table, the ying and the yang, the night and the day each different, but important vital to the other.
The difference between black and white is the hardest thing to decipher, and once I tell you, you still will not get it. We are the same when you close your eyes and look at the big picture.

thats what im saying. If your black your black and if your white your white. Why does racism exist. I think that we are all "one people". This world is hard to change but I am black and i've gone to schools where there is very few blacks and I don't feel uncomfortable, unless people make me feel that way "selfish people".

blacks and whites have cultural differences but that shouldn't interfere with any relationships (friendships, etc).

Some white people don't like certain black people, because of the difference in culture. I don't judge a person on his/her race, but unfortunately some people do.
