There are certain topics on Y!A that become heated. It causes some members to wear down and eventually make mistakes. Trolls take advantage of this.

I am asking this question in several of the heated categories to gather suggestions from persons that see the problem.

Since a troll is someone that you don't like, others can easily see you as a troll as well.

As long as you gang up on others to report them with the aim of having their account canceled, others will do the same to you.

It's silly and stupid for adults to believe they can 'tell' on others. If you don't like what others say, just ignore them.

Its difficult to find a solution that fits everyone, particularly since there isnt a set moderator such as you find on other discussion forums. I just dont think Y!A is set up to deal with this sort of discussion. I think its original intent was exactly what it claims to be - a place to ask and answer questions. More along the lines of trivia (who starred in that movie...?) or those seeking help (I have 96 toro lawnmower that wont start...) Actual back and forth debate doesnt work well here, particularly when questioners can delete the question as soon as they are proven wrong or can "resolve" the question after their favorite buddy has posted - giving them the "best answer" Insofar as the trolls go, Im seeing some of the more benign contributors getting attacked as opposed to the heavy hitters. Seems odd and I cant quite figure out why. There are about 3-4 "top contributors" who regularly post nothing but insults, and they seem to be cruising along without a problem. I should say that this is what I have seen RECENTLY. There were a number of regulars who went down a couple of months ago, but they were regularly posting things that were far from civil or acceptable. Does anyone know of any other neutral discussion forums? Id love to carry this "elsewhere".

I know whatc you mean. Personally, I believe the homophobes have a hold on the government and many other big industries and corrupt them so that they go against what is right to do what they believe is right. But are we so much better? We have a tendency to get trolls accounts suspended (i.e. Doc Dorris) and yet we complain when some of us get suspended. In Da Ben Dan's case though, it isn't right, because there was no reason behind that suspension. Hey, its a free country, and I can totally say all of that.

what's at stake for you exactly?.

got your mortgage riding on your point totals?

Chill out!

Its all meaningless. I know you want to engage in decent conversation and some of them spoil a good question but you can always make your point to the next person who asks the same question for the tenth time in a different way.

or you can frame your opinion within the context of your own question to get other peoples opinion of your ideas

we all see the trolls for what they are and of course all their emails are off and they cant be reached. its frustrating that they can do things so arbitrarily

They're morons 99.9% of the time. Ignore them like an adult.

The best you can do is to remember the TOS at all times and not violate the terms. Just don't answer the questions that are hot button issues if you cannot do so and stay within TOS. PLUS when t he troll accounts get less and less responses they are deflated. All they want to do is stir up trouble - by not letting them do so we still win!!

The best way to avoid getting abuse reports made against you is to follow the rules and remember that nobody is above them. No big deal. I see a lot of people swearing in their responses. foul language is foul language even if you "*" one letter out of the word. You just have to be mature and abide by the CG. If you can't, then you deserve what you get.

What we can do to fix that problem is just not respond to the trolls, sure, we'll lose an easy 2 points, but if they see that they aren't getting any attention then they'll get bored and leave.

First, I think anyone with a Top Contribute Badge should not be able to be reported or banned. Also, I think all people above level 3 (I'm lvl 3, btw) have shown that they care about answers, and they sould not be banned.

I don't know what to do about it. I got a gazillion violation emails last night for responding to a post about birthday wishes. I answered the question adequately and politely. How the heck is that against TOS???
The trolls are ridiculous. They're jealous I guess.....

it is quite apparant that the best way to deal with trolls is to not answer them. But watch and see which kind of questions get the most answers........

Live with it. Start a new account. Once you get suspended, you never get it back. Well, at least that's what happened to me...

my suggestion is to block a troll immediately when you see them.
