I wouldn't have any concerns! I noticed that many Greek kids are having fun in the sea, the parents gone for a coffee and you can be sure that other Greeks would watch out for your kid! Greek people just love children and take care of all children! I really respect them a lot for that! I wished I could have spent my childhood in Greece...

Why Greece shouldnt be a good place? Our country is very safe, and very conservative in many things. We still keep traditions.I dont want to do publicity for Greece, but be sure that the family is very stricted, and the principles respected.
Certainly, as in all countries, some places gather a higher percentage of danger, such as the big cities, but this doesnt mean that all the people who live there are threatened.Yoiu just have to be careful sometimesin some specific places and in specific also hours. But the greek province, and especially the islands, are safe, so, there is no need to worry about it...

I spent the four years as a child in Greece, 9-13. Some of the best memories of my life! Your child will come back with memories of its' beaches, blue water, late nights (dinner at 10ish), fresh seafood, meeting new people with their kids from Greece and from all over Europe; good times overall. Oh yeah, don't forget about the history. Spend a couple of days in Athens, then take off, go explore the rest of the country. HAVE FUN! ps.. i am biased, mom is Greek.

Athens – Plaka and Monastiraki
The Plaka is your spot to shop in Athens. Pandrossou is a pedestrian street, lined with shops, with plenty of fun stuff for kids – dolls in costume (some are museum reproductions), polished stone eggs, embroidered slippers, miniature Greek vases and statues, ceramic boxes, bronze helmets, ceramic horses, painted wooden donkeys, onyx boxes, Athena's owl. Andrianou is another good shopping street.
Monastiraki (right at the metro stop) is a permanent flea market that's fun to wander through, not necessarily to buy. You'll see all kinds of stuff, and it feels more like the oriental bazaar.
Ermou St. – Walk down pedestrians-only Ermou St, all the way to Syntagma square. The street is lined with street musicians – it's fun to stop and listen (you can also buy their CD's too).
Museum of Greek Children's Art ( 9 Kodrou St.) – This charming little museum has a wonderful exhibition of bright paintings and multimedia artwork by Greek children. Each year, kids up to 14 years old have a chance to participate, and winning entries are exhibited in the museum. See Greece through children's eyes. Museum is closed Mondays.
Museum of Greek Folk Art – Before you shop for costume dolls, see the real thing – a fabulous collection of costumes from all over Greece, plus an exhibit of Greek shadow theater, called Karaghiozes.
This information is only about Athens, if you need more information, as a travel agency I can search in my office and look up for you...But deffinately the girl wiil love Greece

Definitely. She will have a good time at the beach and see a lot of culture too. Plus Greece is a very calm and children friendly place. Just avoid areas like Malia, Faliraki, Myconos, where wild tourists go. Prefer to go to Sifnos, Milos, Syros or Naxos.

Depends on your family and the 12 year old. I am Greek-American and spent some time in Greece growing up. I loved it. Why don't you get your child some books to learn about Ancient Greece and get them excited about it.
Do they like fish? There will be lots of fish to eat...make sure you are prepared. :)
Have a great trip.
