Well, it has been done. The said cars were destroyed. I think the government does not want to be accused of coddling the smugglers or abetting these people to commit the same mistake. Call it self-righteousness though it does not look pretty considering that had those cars been auctioned off, the proceeds could have been utilized in raising revenues for the government. Maybe the president has her reasons for deciding to destroy the cars.

Illegal activities in the philippines from commercial to goverment are too high and almost imposible to take control by the goverment. If the goverment tolerate those actions,More ilegal activities will arise. And many goverment workers might be interested in that kind of activities keeping all the money.

the cars were illegally entered into the country. they should be destroyed as a lesson to not do that, the government could auction them and make money, but that too would be adding to the illegality. ...if it were drugs ,,, would you want the governement auctioning off the drugs... no that is illegal too ...

it should be destroyed. do you know that if those cars be auctioned, only the corrupt customs people and the smugglers will benefit from the sale.
the smugglers themselves will bid those cars.
destroying those cars should give them the lesson.

those should be shredded and turned into beer caps and cans. actually those will only be destroyed in papers but the cars will actually end up in their garage... now if they auctioned the cars it's gonna be another story, the money will end up in their pockets...
