Not a whole lot of info there, sport, like what kind of window, how big, is it above the first story, are you fixing an old window or installing a replacement, are you trying to figure out what size to buy and don't know what the 'rough opening' measurements are? Help us--and yourself-- out by thinking about it, then asking the question again, with some facts/measurements thrown in, please...the answers are out there but we're not mindreaders.

The most common way used at the moment is to fit your new window into the opening and level it, holding it in place with packers and or wedges then fix using expanding foam, once the foam has set you just trim of the excess and you are done, this method is mainly used for windows in masonry if there is a timber sub frame then screws are the obvious choice.

measure your window frame, then go to an Ace store (most of them cut glass to fit) give them the window size and they can cut the size you need. You will need to remove the old glass and the glazing(the caulk holding the window in the frame)and clean it off there should be some little diamond shaped metal pieces still on the wood frame, remove these and save them (you will reuse them)now put some glaze(or caulk) around the inside part of the track to stick the window in place, then put the new window in place(push it in till it sticks to the window track)then put the diamond shaped metal pieces back in the wood track to hold the window in place(hammer them back in with a hammer and a small screwdriver) then glaze(caulk)the new window all the way around to seal the new glass back in it's frame! Good Luck....you can do it!
