I own a 2000 Ford Taurus. My car jerks when I put my foot on the gas pedal. Do I need to get the oil change. The light did not come on. I put anti-freeze in it thinking it might overheat. I live in Charlotte, NC, and it has been at least 98 degress or above for the past week. Thanks for your help.

Everyone has given you very good information, I'd like to add another small thing. The Taurus and Mercury Sable are prone to wear the throttle cable sleeves and cause the petal to feel as if it's sticking.

After tossing in a set of plugs and new ignition wires, pour a plastic bottle of 3-M Complete Fuel System Cleaner in the gas tank. It's on sale right now at any NAPA auto parts store. It'll clean the fuel injecters, intake manifold, valves and combustion chambers. If you can find Texaco gas stations use their gas exclusevely for a souple thousand miles. It's got a very good cleaner mixed with the fuel also.

How long has it been since it had a tune-up? It may need a new set of spark plugs, etc. and the fuel injectors cleaned. Do you know someone who runs a good, independent shop? Always a better deal there on parts and labor than going to the dealer. As a "quick fix" I would put a full bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank with the next fill-up. Dump the stuff in first, then put in the gas, so it gets mixed in well with the fuel and then drive as you normally would. See if there's an improvement in performance. I run a bottle thru my cars about every fourth fill-up and it's worth the money in fuel savings alone at today's prices...K ;o)

It's good idea to check the coolant, but I think you have an ignition problem...when was the last time you you had a tune up done?
I would start with a tune as you may have clogged fuel filter or bad spark plug wires...
If the problem persists, check the fuel pressure and the vacuum line.
Good luck!

Just take it to a mechanic and let them figure out what's wrong. Given how complex modern cars are it could be almost anything.
