Unlikely, he may have always been gay but trying to avoid the issue, or he may be bisexual but people don't change their sexual orientation, they sometimes do come to a stage in their lives where they can accept themselves and their true orientation, for some it can take longer than others if they are living with a community or family group that are hostile to gays.

Yep... Latent Homosexuality (as it is broadly known) can manifest later in life. Some people don't reach maturation untill they are well into thier 20's or even later. In some cases men "sort of" know deep down thay are gay, but due to family pressure, peer pressure, fear (of many things) they bury the feeling, take on a hetrosexual relationship and live the lie for many years before realising that they have to be true to themselves, and then... Years into a marriage and family, they have to come out. Your friend might well be gay... But even then, I think a lot of his camping it up,, is probably just his fitting in withthe people he works with. Look at me ! I act like a complete prick sometimes, because I work with police men on occasion. (joke)

Some people have homosexual tendencies but repress them, but after a while, they break free. So it is possible, but the person would have not really been straight, just repressed or hiding other feelings. They are some cases where people have decided after a while that they would prefer the same sex, but these people usually make the choice willingly, and tend to be a little more open minded about it from the begining.

You can't just "become" gay. You're born gay, it's not a choice, it probably just took that person that 20 years to actually realize that he is gay. It took my dad till he was 40 to realize it, it just takes longer for some people than others.

No you cannot just become gay,if this person comes out as being gay then they have been hiding it from themselves and others for 20 years.

I doubt he suddenly became gay, he was always gay but was denying it maybe due to parental or peer pressure. This happens a lot, it's so sad because people lose out on so many years of their life living it how other people want them to.

It doesn't mean he is gay. It means he happened to like a guy.
I think the issue here is one of categorization/perception of sexuality. I don't think it is useful to think of people as heterosexuals or homosexuals. I think acts can be homosexual or heterosexual. I think most people are predominantly one or the other, but at some point many if not most people experience sexual feelings for someone of the same sex. The other issue here is why the idea of being gay or liking one guy is so distressing.

A person can be gay whenever they wish to acknowledge and accept who they really are. It's not alway easy, but it's much easier than living a lie.

he may have been gay or bi all along. there are many levels of love. if he didn't know what those feelings meant, he could have led a "normal" hetero life. i know many gay men that got married had kids and buried or hid their true feelings. they loved their wifes but they could no longer deny how they felt. love evolves with changes in our lives. it does not just go away

Yes he can but it he more than likely was already gay but was repressing what was natural. He was probably afraid of what others would think and perhaps afraid himself of being gay.
