You can kill them with a Fly trap:
Fill a quart jar with this mixture.
3 cups of water
¼ (one quarter) cup sugar
¼ (one quarter) cup white vinegar
Mix, punch holes in the lid, and set it where needed.

Or try fly repellents or sticky fly paper. Common fly repellent recipes often involve a combination of essential oils such as eucalyptus, tea tree, lavender and sandalwood. These are mixed with water in a spray bottle and sprayed on whatever you want to keep flies away from. Garlic is also used to keep flies away.

Take a large lemon with a thick rind and slice thinly. Place in a bowl with a few sprigs of rosemary and cover both in boiling water. Allow to steep overnight and strain the mixture the following morning. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and shake before applying. A similar response seems to be had by doing the same with leaves, stems and flowers from Elder bushes.

Sweet Basil is said to keep flies away. This site has an interesting discussion where members affirm that using Basil helps them to get rid of flies:

"Made by Shaklee ...BASIC H...works. You can use it to spray areas where flies breed or congregate, once they have been misted, they can’t fly anymore and die." Make a diluted spray with 5-7 parts water and one part basic H .

Find the source that the fruit flies are going after & eliminate it if you can. It could be some fruit that's rotting somewhere on your property.
Good luck! Hope this helps.

I had this problem last year. I found bug bombing and fly paper were temporary solutions that worked alright but I didn't like all the icky chemicals in my apartment. 1. Put vinegar, or red wine in the bottom of a glass or bowl. 2. Wrap the top of the glass with saran wrap. 3. Poke very small holes in the saran wrap, make sure they are big enough that the bugs can get in. 4. Place your trap on the counter. The bugs will fly in looking for the food source and will not find a way out. Eventually they will drown. You can put them in a zip lock bag instead of saran wrap and squish them or release them outside. I liked to refresh the vinegar daily because it smelled more yummy to a fruit fly. Next find the source of your problem and fix that. Clean, clean, clean! Check the grout in your tiles too. They can eat food stuck in that. I would also look into your sink. Often they will breed and live off the organic materials in the sinks drain and pipes. There are organic chemical eaters that could help with that to prevent further infestation. Bleach and dish soap won't work. A vacuum cleaner with a hose works too. The suction on their way in kills them before they reach the bag. I've heard of people using a microwave / oven safe bowl of vinegar and putting it in an open microwave or oven and when there are enough flies, shutting the door and nuking them too. I prefer to minimize the clean up, especially around my food. I hope this helps!

the problem that most people find with fruit flies and other pests to crops etc is a thing called natural resistance. what this means is when you spray the chemical onto the crops you kill off the majority of these incects "the weak links", however some flies may have a natural resistance or immunity to these chemicals, they then breed together, forming more offspring that is immune to your chemicals, eventually rendering it useless. If you go to tyour local hardware or garden centre, they will have information of the best chemicals to use at what times of the year. remember that most chemicals are made using powerful agents that can be very dangerous to pets and humans, always wear the right gear and never spray on windy days.

HI THERE.

THIS IS JUST MY LAY MAN OPINION

YOU MIGHT BE CAREFUL USING A SPRAY IF YOU CAN FIND OUT -- IT MIGHT GET INTO YOUR EYE AND YOUR EYE WILL GET IRRITATED

YOU CAN TRY THE STICKY SHEETS OR AN ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT WHERE THE FLY IS

LIKE BY THE DOOR WHERE THE FLYS ARE

THE BEST TIME IS TO TURN IT ON DURING THE NIGHT

THE GLOW FROM THE LIGHT WILL ATTRACT THEM

YOU MIGHT WANT TOO THOUGH LOCATE THE SOURCE OF THE FLY

GOOD LUCK

My father just hangs plastic bottles half filled with water in the tree branches.
After a week the bottle is full of dead (drowned) flies and bugs.

Water is free and you don't have to wait to eat the fruit!!
