What do I think? After reading both accounts and searching for autopsy reports for said abducted elk, these are my considerations:

1. It is logical (though not scientifically and not clearly proven at this point) that "alternate" life exists apart from human life on Earth. (The ancient Mayan civilization - through folklore now well over one thousand years old - attributes the surge of their sudden scientific growth to "blond, blue-eyed visitors" e.g. the rise of the City of Chichen Itza)

2. Based on the information in both articles, the results are inconclusive. More questions are raised than conclusions offered; if autopsy reports were available for scrutiny, the story would be more credible.

It is interesting that the story reports the presence of engorged ticks as well as the lack of scavengers at the Elk carcass. No cause of death (to the Elk) is provided although the animal was said to be in "perfect" health prior to the incident. After a brief web search, I was unable to locate substantial follow up data to the Washington Elk story. Therefore, my own findings
I think;
Preliminary Observations:

1. The Washington Elk Abduction is ~possibly~ a reasonable account of the facts of that occurrence. There is adequate cause to seriously consider that we are "visited" by other life forms. Their origins are unknown and they could very well be from our own planet as well as from outer space. It is also possible that there is more than one "race" of observers/visitors/explorers/"scientists". Again, "they" may not be from far off galaxies and may reside here right under our noses, yet we do not know ~anything for sure~. All information is both worthy of further study and current, collected data is suspect awaiting substantive supporting facts. Question everything, trust nothing until it can be proven.

2. We ought to be concerned. If we are indeed being visited by an unknown "they" who appear casual, or even careless with their "observations" of animal life by causing death, what are the chances of their treating our human life with care and respect?

3. We are not the only ones in this cosmos. Neither are "they". The subject is rife with infinite possibilities.

1. They are hunting out of season. 2. Washington hunting regulations require to shoot with not less than a 30 caliber rifle, a black power rifle, or bow and arrow. snagging, snaring, or trapping are prohibited. 3. They may have had a special culling license because Mt. Saint Helens is in a carefully controlled area.
Other than that, I like a little hickory smoke BBQ sauce on a thick steak, or a least I did before I quite eating meat. For a nice thick elk steak I might be tempted.

Aliens look no different from normal humand except for a film over their eyes that is seemingly "reflective", much resembling a lizard or a gecko. They are here simply to see what humans are doing with the planet. They actually assist us sometimes so that we don't totally destroy ourselves. So much evidence is here on earth - cave drawings, the Nazca lines, crop circles... How can we NOT believe?

I believe the "UFO" described in the story is simply trying to assist the elk. Perhaps the creature was in pain, maybe she was dying. I realize that the story suggests nothing was wrong with the elk, that it was healthy. However, there are many things that could have been wrong with it that aren't visible to the naked eye. Perhaps the visitors were merely trying to help a creature in pain and suffering... After all, if aliens were here to hurt us, they would done it a long time ago...

I see nothing strange about this.

If you had to probe inferior creatures all day, you'd get bored too.

What better way to pass the time than bobbing for elks?

Got MELK? This story is several years old already and those aliens are most likely "part" way home by now. Maybe they thought it would land on it's feet like a cat?

the unusual thing in that elk abduction story are the engorged ticks that were still embedded in the animal's flesh. according to entomologists,- given that a tick will usually detach itself from a dead animal as the temperature of the carcass drops. -
