Its to console us of the irresolveable paradox we find ourselves in. We are given an overwhelming desire to preserve life and yet we realize the impossiblility, because mortality is finite. We have to console ourselves because the alternative to an afterlife seems soo unfair. But we define our own words, its as if we set "fairness" purposely out of our own reach. The fact that I am here even discussing such **** is soo amazingly beautiful to me that I don't care if i survive my death or not because this alone is worth it to me.

every cell / micro organ of your body keeps on replacing and it takes approx 3 years to change entire body. that means your body is not the one which you had three years back..!!
then why to bother about personnality? and what it really is?
there is nothing called "afterlife" as you are immortal. death indicates that your body is obsolute and has no point in relacing any of its parts any more. for ex. will you try fixing ur Pentium-1 any more or go for Core 2 Duo...???

I'm agnostic, so I really don't believe in Heaven or Hell. For me, death is an ultimate peace from the stresses of mortal life, but your soul/personality remains intact forever. It will rebound infinitely on those who love or hate you. Your legacy may be lost, but the cycle of immortal remembrance continues in less direct ways. And so your soul will travel the mortal world until the end of time.

Who says it doesn't? every part of what is in your spirit or soul is what seems to continue. I had an aunt who died for a time in ER, and was later revived. She said she was for a moment in heaven, sitting beside with friends and talking. a
moment later, Jesus came to her and said that she had to go back. When she related the story, she was sad because she didn't notice at the time, that her husband was not there.
Weird stuff this, and likely has many explanations, but her entire spirit was in tact during the whole ordeal

Your state of awareness at death survives into the next 'life' but not necessarily your personality which is the ego fake identity.

I could walk away from all means of internet access and never go online again from this point in time onward, and forever remain a ghost in the machine.

Alive or dead, I'll always be around, at least electronically.

Good question. Unity in diversity. Unity in those things that are crucial and diversity in all else. If we want to be part of a family, there are certain things to which we must conform but in other things, diversity is an asset.
