Your CMOS (Complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor) battery provides enough power for your motherboard to keep track of the time.

For all the information you'll ever need to know about CMOS check the link in my sources.

Hope this helps!

Theres a small battery inside your computer on what is called the motherboard. the little battery works a lot like the 9volt you can put into a clock, so when the power goes out, the battery keeps the clock going, so when the power comes back, it can still display the correct time. the battery is also used to store other data, like hardware information and stuff like that. these batteries last a very long time, around 4 years. they use the same batteries used in watches, only its a larger disk.
