I can see if it's the middle of the night and doesn't seem to be an emergency, asking how to keep your pet more comfotable until you can get to the vet. But a lot of people seem to want to use YA as a substitute for a vet. This is animal cruelty if you ask me.
And don't say maybe they can't afford a vet-if you can't afford healthcare for them you have no business having them.

I already said I can see looking for reassurance or palliative care for a non-emergent situation until morning. But I won't buy because vets don't know or don't care. I've shopped around plenty to find a vet just right for my kids, but if one of them had a serious problem I'd be on the first vet I could get, and worry about fine tuning later.
The guy on tonight who said please help with my kitty, she's been sick/won't eat for FOUR days is a perfect example!

Because, when you have a problem, many heads thinking about it can help. The problem on Y/A is that you don't know if you are getting the right advice when it comes to "Health Care" and you are right, a professional opinion is needed. I don't have any health insurance for my dog, and she just cost me $3000 at the vet, who cares about the $.... I'll pick up cans, and drive a van on Sat. to pay for it, I got my little Doggle back alive ! not the other alternative that was offered.

Barbara,I think people are so trusting I'm 61 and have experienced a lot in my life time I have learned everything the hard way it's the old saying "I only wish I knew then what I know now".As far as treating an animal who has become ill if the person is able to have someone who has had that problem with their pet and can give some solid advice and are able to reassure them that everything is OK I think it's more for the relief of worry more than the money,at least I hope I'm right. But you could be right some people just want to save a few bucks.I had a friend who's Dalmatian had a stomach virus and it cost them $1000.00 to treat the dog and they had to put him on a ground turkey and rice diet till the problem was cured.

Because a lot of Vets do not know all the answers and some don't know much, and it seems many just don't care as I have discovered on my journey through my $7000.00 Vet hell with my Diabetic Greyhound Puppy with Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. And after spending $7000.00 I learned more about EPI today on the Yahoo groups for EPI then I ever did from all the vets I have seen in the past 4 months.
We want to be as knowledgable as we can and the internet it a great way to gather information that you can always verify with your vet

I think a lot of it is to pass the time while waiting to get in at the vet. I know I posted a question while I was waiting for the vets clinic to open. Sometimes people are really scared though and looking for comfort.

I agree. I have posted a few comments telling ppl to take thier pets to the vet. Things like discharge from a cats bottom and stuff like that. I'd hate to be those peoples pets.
