Among humans it has been practiced by various tribal groups in the past in the Amazon Basin, North America, Africa, Fiji, Australia, New Zealand, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, and New Guinea, usually in rituals connected to tribal warfare. Fiji was once known as the 'Cannibal Isles'. The Chaco Canyon ruins of the Anasazi culture have been interpreted by some archaeologists as containing evidence of ritual cannibalism.
The Carib tribe acquired a longstanding reputation as cannibals following the recording of their legends by Fr. Breton in the 17th century. Some controversy exists over the accuracy of these legends and the prevalence of actual cannibalism in the culture. The Korowai tribe of southeastern Papua could be one of the last surviving tribes in the world engaging in cannibalism.
In September 2006, Australian television crews from 60 Minutes and Today Tonight attempted to rescue a 6-year-old boy who they believed would be ritually cannibalised by his tribe, the Korowai, from Papua, Indonesia. In June 2007, four men in Doha, Qatar, were charged with murder and cannibalism. The incident came to light when one of the four men suffered from severe reactions after eating human flesh and was subsequently rushed to the hospital. When x-rays showed what appeared to be a human finger in the man's stomach, doctors called police.

I hear it's more like pork. Some highlanders in PNG were still actively raiding other villages for the inhabitants flesh up until the mid-20th century. I never took it up myself, but I'm not a highlander ;-D You make a good point though - acquiring cadavers from the homeless and criminal underworld. Quite plausible. EDIT: Andrei, cannibalism existed on both sides of the border on the island of New Guinea. I doubt it still exists on either side. The Indonesians claim that it still exists in West Papua. It's a handy excuse for their tyranny in the province.

Yes, there are remote hill-tribes in the jungles of New Guinea (the island north of Australia) which still practise cannibalism. There was an article about them in the National Geographic magazine years ago.
Europe also had cannibals in historical times. The ancient Greeks tell us of tribes in places like Russia which used to eat their dead : that is, the family members cooked the bodies of their family members that died and ate them as a holy religious rite. The dead family member was re-absorbed into the family in this way.
Some Scythian tribes (of Russia) also used to eat the brains of enemies killed in battle to give them power.

Yes, but most of the myths about it are just that myths.
Some tribes seldom do it but when they do it is because the person they eat was said to be possesed and the only way to destroy the demon is to eat the body. (no lie)
And there are the psychos out there who do eat portions of the people they murder.

Yes, in many places throughout the world. Some places hold on to tradition, others have continued to be isolated from "advancement". It's sick to some of us, but you can't judge other cultures by your own.
