IF YOU HAVE SEEN SOMEONE COMMITING A CRIME AND DONT REPORT IT YOUR AUTOMATICALLY APART OF THE CRIME...YOU SHOULD REPORT IT IF YOU DONT WANT TO GET INTO ALOT OF TROUBLE..

REMEMBER WHEN THAT GUY KILLED HIS PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND AND HIS FEMALE FRIEND WALKED IN AND DIDNT REPORT IT AND GOT SOME YEARS TOO..THAT COULD HAPPEN..

The answer to your question "if they become a part of the crime" for being timid and unyielding is not becoming a participation of the crime itself.

Call for help? From whom or where do you call help from if the crime is already present and engulfing you. Yes we should be helping, if you happen to pass by a crime scene either call 911 or assist the victim if possible to the nearest hospital.

Ignore a crime? Depends actually if it will endanger not only your life but also your family as well, people do tend to forget what they see or hear and just go on with their regular life. If what you wanted is justice and fairness toward the victim and you certainly wants to help then being a witness will suit you fine but there is a price on everything in this world. You cannot have everything. There will be regular threat on your life together with your family, if you could stand all of this by being fair to your neighbors then go for it but if this is just too much to bear why risk everything you have for someone you donot even know. Let the cops do their job.

I think it depends on the crime. If someone is killed at your home while you are at work, your home is a crime scene but you didn't see or do the murder so you are NOT part of a crime. Obviously you report this immediately!

But if you have a room-mate or a lover who might be a drug dealer or god knows what and (say you don't know it) he/she puts illegal money into your bank account- THEN the crime trickles over to you.

You can report what you learn to the police but since you guys have a relationship, they won't believe you. So you have to wait it out and PRAY he/she gets caught on their own & you can finally clear your name from this "guilt by association".

Technically, in the UK, you could be prosecuted for a number of offences. "Witholding Evidence", "Perverting the Course of Justice", "Aiding and Abetting" are some of the likely ones. However, it's extremely rare that it actually happens and usually the law is used where somebody knows the person that committed the crime and therefore didn't report anything or gave a false statement and / or description of the criminal. As citizens, we do have a legal obligation to report a crime as failing to do so could also bring charges. As for helping, although there is no legal obligation to help, we do have a moral obligation.

Depending on the country you are you call the emergency number
Don't help, you may end up becoming the victim
You don't become part of the crime, just a witness

You are not criminally negligent if you just witness a crime.

But, You can not ignore it when a crime happening, legally. I mean you can if you want, it's just against the law.

You don't have to help, but reporting it would be a good idea, even if it is just to save your own skin.

They do not become part of the crime, but they can still be pending suspects. You are still counted as a witness, and only tell the police if what you saw is somewhat significant. If it is, go to a police station and tell them what you saw. They will probably call on you to go to court, to question you, but you will probably will not be convicted if you were a mere by-stander.

You're not obliged to help, particularly if it would endanger you, but if it wouldn't endanger you, it would be nice to do.

But you must report any crime that you know has been committed, or will be committed, to the police. Otherwise you are an accessory. The chances of being convicted as an accessory if you weren't involved are admittedly slim, but it's possible, and certainly as a good citizen you're obliged to report it.
