The original tune and related dance predates the Civil War. The dance went to its peak with the most well-known country version done by the popular Western swing group known as Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys. In 1994, Swedish euro-dance pop group Rednex revived that song for our younger generations with a Top 25 US hit.
