A falling star is actually a small meteor/space debris which heats up as it enters the Earth's atmosphere, it gives off a brief lightshow as it travels down towards the ground. Most of them burn up before touching down but if a fragment does reach Earth then its name changes to meteorite.
As for where to find them, there are regular showers .. we've just had the perseids but there's others ... the Leonids for example.
Perseids 23 Jul - 22 Aug
(12 Aug 9.20am) Northern Hemisphere
Orionids 15 - 29 Oct
(21 Oct 1.30am) Both hemispheres
Leonids 13 - 20 Nov
(17 Nov 7.30am) Both
Geminids 6 - 19 Dec
(13 Dec 8.45pm) Both
Hopefully you will have clear sky around your at the right time because Nature's fireworks leave the manmade ones standing for sheer beauty.

Thats a tricky one. A falling star or meteor (a meteorite when it is on the ground) is very hard to locate amongst all the other junk down here, so when Nasa want to find some they go where it is easy for them to stand out, places like the Arctic, antarctic, glaciers etc. They then analyse them to make sure it is from outer space and not transported from somwhere else.
You can buy them from rock and mineral shops, but watch out for fakes too. Have a look on Google images for pictures.
Hope that helps,

If the Earth is without postpone moved outdoors the universe then the stars could seem to fall from heaven and the heavens could seem to be rolled up like a scroll upon the Earth leaving the universe. Revelation 6:12-14 (NIV) 12 I watched as he opened the 6th seal. there replaced right into an excellent earthquake. The solar became black like sackcloth made up of goat hair, the completed moon became blood purple, 13 and the stars interior the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree whilst shaken by a reliable wind. 14 The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and each mountain and island replaced into removed from its place.

The shower at the moment have been in the North East sky at about 1 to 2 am.
I say three last night in about 5 mins, but the show is almost over. Look for the BBC Sky at night website for up to dat info on this and other astronomical things.
