(Notice I stress "certain" Americans ie not all because I know you're not all like that)

Spout such high horse moralistic rubbish about Britain's past when their own country has been guilty of just as bad if not worse (witness what they did to the American Indians?)

Why does he say in his profile that he" values other countries and diversity" and then spout hate against a whole country? How can he generalise about all British people because of what the British government did on the past?

This astounds me. Its just reverse bigotry.

As for Ireland, why did Americans donate so much money to the "brave freedom fighting" IRA for so long and then when their own innocent civillians were slaughtered by terrorists because of the foreign policy, withdraw their support, declare "war on terror" and start blowing up half the world!

Why are we supporting you in Iraq???

Ahab - no I'm not a Dubliner I'm Welsh and yes I'm of "Irish descent" too (Great grandmother) but I wouldn't support the bloody IRA!!!

nonezzedder - I'm Welsh myself and have to admit you are very wrong. Welsh and Scots took as much part in the British empire as English. Read your history books purlease!!! The Celtic card has been overplayed. Wish people would stop using it.

Porkrod - good to hear some of you Americans have some sense. My Irish gt-gt-grandfather used to refer to the IRA as "those devils" and he was a Gaelic Speaking Catholic.

Well, your question is alot more than meets the eye. First off,
you know that many Americans are of Irish decent, JFK and others abound. YOu have several questions up there.
Duh! Maybe we want to take over the world so that
"scones and tea" will be replaced with "coffee and 12 donuts."
As you may have noticed are mouths and tummies are bigger than the average "half starved" Celt. Mayhaps we are disappointed in the fact that we can't turn other countries into shopping malls and car dealerships. Chi Guy is a "oxy" moron or is merely trying to stir up sedition. Maybe Americans have confused Iraq with "a rock" and think they have to land at it again (see pilgrims). But what is really bothering you? How is the weather in the Mother country?
Sorry to hear about Tommy Makem. I bet you're a Dubliner. Would you mind heading down to the Grafton Street cafe
and grabbing me a cup of Bewley's.?

Just wanted to point out that what happened to the Native Americans............that was the British doing those bad things when trying to claim America. That is obvious. Europeans discovered the country and therefor claiming many of the Natives lives to take control and claim the land as their own.

I don't blame anyone today, for the things that their country has done in the past, and no one should. That would be like me saying that all Germans are Hitler loving nazi's..........it's just not true today.
That "Chi Guy" should practice what he preaches.
Thanks for realizing that we're not all like that dufus. Most would accuse us of all being like that.
And yes....our government should stay out of foreign affairs, and it sucks that us "average joes" really can't do anything about it.
Cheers

The only things I like about him is that he seems to be well read, knows how to use the spell checker and is from "Da' sout' side" like me.

Perhaps he had a bad experience while stationed in GB in the military.

About the Ireland thing: My Grandfather was born in Ireland and was a Chicago police officer. The IRA used to go door to door in the Irish neighborhoods to collect donations. My grandfather would make them wait on the porch while he got his badge and his gun and then chase them down the street...!

By the war, "You" are not supporting "us" in Iraq. Our countries are supporting a screwed up war and we both need to get out.

The guy's entitled to his opinions whether we like them or not.
Personally, I think that his question is very black and white about British history but he's probably deliberately trying to get a reaction. Don't rise to the bait by insulting decent Americans who aren't bad guys at all as a rule. Have a star for your efforts.

yeah, i must say I agree with you.

He obviously has no idea about history though, or just selected what he wanted, and ignored the rest. He said that every country we had invaded was now worse off, so therefore he is saying that America is worse off now? yeah, i don't think so. and obviously, Canada, and Australia are really poor and wrecked countries.

But yeah, reverse bigotry, and yeah, at least we've learned our lesson, America is still supporting all the wrong people, and still ruining millions of people's lives with their petty wars.

Chi Guy is actually a very nice guy and yes, many here recognize that fact and appreciate it though even I must add I don't agree with everything he posts.

As to the question you're referencing, he asked a simple question with just a touch of barb added on for dramatic effect.

Don't take it so personally. He didn't generalized about all British. He made a statement in questioning the government is all.

As to why you're supporting us in Iraq, I can only suggest it is because your country has had even more terrorist attacks than our own. Half the time, I don't even know if you are supporting us or, we are aiding in protecting you. It really goes both ways, as it should be.

Cheerio!

I don't know why. I'm Scottish myself & hate the very idea of Britishness myself. Sorry to play the Celtic card but that's what I identify with, and I would personally like to apologise for all the crappy things my country has done as part of the United Kingdom, but you have to remember nobody in Scotland, bar a few rich & corrupt noblemen, wanted to make a Union with England in the first place.
:(

It's Englands past not Britains.

Blaming Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland for English attrocities..is exactly like the Nazies Blaming France for their invasion of Russia.

Most people here don't agree with Chi Guy. He's a racist, hate-spewing, ignorant liberal troll who should have been banned from this site a long time ago. (Yahoo doesn't ban liberal trolls very often). Don't let that clown bother you.

Face facts.

Tony Blair played right along this whole time.

There is no denying that Great Britain has had a history of treachery.

Don't take it so personally ruthlessness and Imperialism are as old as mankind!

Chi Guy is entitled to his opinions.

He's usually right. Truth can be painful!

EDIT: Oh by the way, Ireland should be able to determine it's own future!
