Of course you'd rather say something about someone when they aren't around to hear you say it. That's the coward's way, and let's face it, everyone is a coward to some extent. The reason people prefer to hear it, rather than you saying it to someone else, is because no one likes to be talked about. And if they are being talked about, they want to know exactly what is being said, and they want to exercise the right to defend themselves against the verbal onslaught. It's human nature.

how do you like people talking behind your back?
i hate those two face people who pretends to be nice to you and supports whatever you say or do... but behind your back they backstab or criticise...
i think if you really appreciate the person as your true friend, its good to say it directly face to face (put it in a nice manner so that your friend understands your point of view rather than feel offended) and explain why u feel that way.......... although some people might really take it to heart or get hurt........

personally, i would be rather told to my face. i hate it when people talk behind my back about me in a negative way. it's like they think they are so above me. putting me down when they know i can't say my peace. it doesn't solve anything. the only way to solve a problem is by addressing it. that means confronting the person you have an issue with.
btw, i'm not very good at confronting people. i tend to internalize everything. but, i do prefer to be told to my face.

It sounds like they are ready to rumble over whatever was said . If I say something about someone they either hear it first from me or I'll repeat it to them and they can't explain how they can disagree with it .
