Nope. The Realtor has been paid. You could send a Thank You note. The only thing your Realtor really wants from you now is referrals, so if you know anyone thinking about buying/selling, give that person's contact info to your Realtor...

In some states such as Tennessee, the broker is the only one who can compensate a licensee. If you wanted to take them to dinner that usually is fine, you can also send a nice "Thank You" card or, best yet send a complimentary letter to their broker, that would be great. They can then insert that letter in a resume' and it will in turn assist that agent in obtaining more business. Testimonials of a job well done are wonderful gifts! There is nothing wrong in "properly" rewarding your agent for a good job, but remember they were also paid to do the job, and state law may govern gifts. Ultimately it is usually the broker's call on whether the agent can keep "bonus" or "thank-you" compensation or not, but it still has to go thru the broker. I personally do not even collect "bonus" compensation if a property I sell to a client has a bonus attached, I discount the amount of the bonus to the buyer right off the top and then work from there to get the best deal and/or terms possible. Depending on how the deal went upon closing I may either buy a closing gift or nice dinner for 2 for my client- or take them to a nice dinner if it we got a an exceptional deal done. A large deal merits a large dinner or special gift. IRS rules also must be considered. Hope this helps.

Your agent received 3-6% of the sales price as a commission. If you house was 300k they have a nice check for at 9k.
Traditionally it is the agent that gives the buyer a nice housewarming gift, not the other way around.

Shake their hand and say thanks we will recommend you to anyone that asks for the name of a good realtor. The real estate agent gets a percentage of your house price.. I think its 7% it could be different in other areas. They are getting a lot so don't worry about sending a gift.

I must agree with 'digger', the best thank you is referrals. Especially if they did a good job and you would use them again. Speaking as someone in the business, your REALTOR should send you a thank you note, cuz they just made some good money. I always send clients 'thank you's', if I list a house, purchase a house, have an appointment, get referals...it's all part of being the nicest and best REALTOR anybody ever met.
Cheers!

I've heard of more agents buying their clients a gift than the other way around. I have heard of offering a bonus for extra effort and a fast sale.

I never have- they make a percentage of the profit from the sale end so a hearty thank you and a handshake has been enough for me!
