Its simply because there's more to a cow than its milk.
The argument really is that if you can have milk for free, you will not only have different taste of milk everytime but will not have to worry about responsibility of taking care of the source whereas if you get milk from a cow, it will be the same until the cow dies or does not produce milk anymore plus you have to take care of it.
What those people who favors not having a cow does not realize is that there are many uses of a cow aside from having regular milk. You get the other intangible services of a cow that you cant possibly get from just milk.
