Besides 'bragging rights' among other users on this site, what is all this about getting points and going to higher levels?

If someone really needs the recognition from other members because they are high on the levels, is this there whole life being higher up than those below them, then, perhaps they have no life worth speaking about in the first place, except 'existing' in cyberspace.

Any corrective feedback on this subject that proves otherwise?

Some people on this board are genuinely good people. They want to ask and answer questions, help others and make people's day, while others, with ridiculously high points, are looking for something to boost their confidence with. They probably don't have such a high level of it and having people select their answers as THE BEST makes them feel good. I don't think this is something bad, necessarily, but it just seems a bit sad that they spend hours collecting points that don't mean anything to anyone but themselves. They are really doing it for THEMSELVES and really not for bragging. They need someone to make them feel worthy and feel good in their own skin.

When you ask a question, it costs you 5 points.

When you answer a question, you're awarded 2 points.

Yahoo keeps the 3 point profit. So far, they've amassed billions of points, and their financial future has never been brighter.

To service community conscience, Yahoo also doles out a 10 point bonus to 'best answers'. Considering that some questions get 50 or more answers (250 point income), the expenditure for public relations is well spent.

Now you know.

Okay, you are new here,,only one month...you haven't got the addiction yet...LOL

I really like the challenge of answering questions..I look up a lot of stuff and I learn things from other people...I also like to share the reason why I believe the Bible is true and share scriptures on why I believe in a certain way.

And for some reason,,,it does feel good to get a right answer or reach a new level...Rather like OCD...we can get obsessive about getting one more question answered before we go to bed.... but I couldn't tell you why..

To me, it is my way of sharing my knowledge with others. I am sincere in the answers I give to those who ask serious questions. If I take the time to answer a stupid question(yes there is such a thing as a stupid question), that is an easy way to get 2 points. I don't do that if I don't know the answer to a question. I just don't answer it. I am not on here every day. I get a good feeling when I look at my email and I see that one of my answers was chosen as a best answer. Sincerity, courtesy, and intelligence are rewarded. That's why I will continue to answer questions and accumulate points.

At 427 points you sound like a bum telling Bill Gates, "Money isn't everything".

I am here because I enjoy it. I spend an hour or two a day. I am retired and I have the time spare. Trust me, if I get that look from momma I will drop you and this site like third period French.

Just enjoy the place or don't, I really don't care either way. At my age I don't do much by choice that I don't like to do.

Now I think I would like to move on. Bye.

When the Answers community anniversary approaches, Yahoo gives gifts based on the users level.

Corrective feedback? korrektives Rückgespräch. Odd choice of words. I would not invest the time it took to write the question even worrying about it. Nothing you do or say will change the way people choose to play in Answers, so why not make your own rules like I do.

Hmmh? Never looked at it like that... Sometimes I have a hard time sleeping and this is an outlet that seems to relax me. No the points do not matter in the grand scheme of things, but then again neither do you so leave those of us that enjoy this forum to it and do not continue to pester the grown folks.

Yahoo Answers is fun to participate in now and then, but I agree with you - the so-called "bragging right" of having tens of thousands of points is pretty sad. Turn off the computer and go outside already!
