Source #1: Any overly powerful country
Source #2: Groups who oppose #1

Justification for source #1:

Powerful countries terrorize their own people. When we saw the myriad of startling terror threats after 9/11, those are acts of terrorism intended to rally the public behind its military. Terrorism is not necessarily violent. It is ANY act intended to achieve a desired result by invoking fear into the masses.

Justification for #2:

Even uneducated people know that one way to bring down an overly powerful country (if you don't have a colossal military force) is to poke at it in ways that will weaken it from the inside. Fear is the best way to accomplish that. Invoke paranoia, and a country will overreact, divide, weaken and eventually fall (in theory at least). Destroying a couple buildings won't destroy a nation. But causing the nation's leaders to react stupidly (as a result of the attack) might.

First, it's important to understand that poverty and education are NOT a serious motivator in terrorism.

To determine what the main source of terrorism is, you need to look at what is the most common factor in terrorist attacks. And the answer to that is Islam.

Self prides and self discrimination with the glory of idol worshiping the dead Mummy of failures and horrors of the past from the graveyards of different ghostly ancestor's custom as success.
The blunders and slip-ups with human errors in downloading their own little ones, own children, own generation and living human kind in own backyards with ghostly stories of failures and horrors of the past in ghostly and deadly words from the graveyards of different ghostly ancestor's custom in not worshiping God in own backyards.

Quite simple actually. Fear and hatred. But since hatred can only come from fear, then there is only one main source, and that is fear.
