Question is only for people who actively use their middle name as their first. I am pondering doing this and was wondering what kind of things you went through.

1. How often do you use it?
2. What docments (Official and otherwise) do you use your middle name?
3. What documents (Official and otherwise) you still use your given first name on?
4. Bills? Credit Cards?
5. Any other personal opinions?

I used to work as a secretary for a man that always went by his middle name. He signed his letters J. Barry Bonds. I used the 3 initials and my initials as the secretary to put beneath his signature. (As in JBB:af) On certain documents, such as a marriage license or credit cards, he would have to use his actual first name instead of just the initial. It is like when everybody calls someone by their nickname (or stage name), but they use their actual name on legal documents. (Movie Stars real names are often different than their stage name.)

Having said all this, I refer you to a web site that states:
"In the U.S., state laws regulate name changes. Contact your state’s department of records and licenses — in some states, the circuit court clerks process name changes — and ask what they require.

In all but a few states, to legally change your name, Federal law allows a name change by common usage."

The web site also includes a list of places you would need to notify of your name change. Such as Social Security, Post Office, Employer,Tax Authorities, etc.

When I have any bills or financial things I use my first name, which is not the name I commonly go by.

I find that works well. My friends and acquaintances refer to me by one name.
While officially I'm known as another.

I use my whole name, because my cousin married someone and her first and last were now the same as mine, so I include my middle name on everything because she also banks at the same bank and stuff got messed up one time.
