I was in the middle of writing a message, when suddenly the 'D' key on my keyboard became stuck. In an attempt to free it, I pressed with a little more force and the 'D' key popped out. Now, the letters 'D', along with the letters 'I', and 'N' no longer work!!! (I had to copy & paste those letters to compose this question). THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!! It's a Dell Insperon 6400 if that helps. Thanks in advance.

Try buying a spray can of compressed air and spray it out. Maybe a crumb or something got stuck in there and is preventing the key from touching the little metal piece to make it show up on the screen.

Unless there's a 24 hour Walmart near you, you're probably going to need to wait until morning. In the meantime, try holding the laptop upside down and shaking it gently to get out any dust/dirt/etc that might be in there. The link "Douglas M" gave is good for cleaning tips. Clean it out the best you can and try restarting it.

If all else fails, do you still have a warranty for the laptop? You can try and send it back and ask them to fix it. Though with Dell that could take the next millennium lol.

As for copy and pasting the letters, it would probably be easier to open the "on screen keyboard"

Follow these prompts:
"Start" > "All Programs" > "Accessories" > "Accessibilities" > "On-Screen Keyboard"

Then you can just click the letter with your mouse rather than copy and paste them repeatedly.

Rakel,

You wore it out. lol.

Seriously though, you may try cleaning the keys. Try and pop the key buttons off, then take a look at the shaft that the buttons connect to, push them down and see if they pop back up. Maybe the spring has broken, or there may have been some liquid spilled onto the keyboard.

If you have no luck with that, then it is time to buy a replacement keyboard from dell. I know someone suggested that you get a USB keyboard, but with a laptop that is a hassle. Replacing the keyboard is not that big of deal, try to find Dell's online repair manual and download it.

If there's anything else I can do for you let me know.

yeah sounds like u need a good cleaning . are u the only one that uses computer? it doesn't take much to mess up a keyboard. what i always do is buy a separate keyboard(like the one used on a desktop and plug it in a usb port on laptop when i'm using my laptop at home. i suggest popping off a couple keys at a time and getting a soft cloth and spray the cloth with endust for electronics and wipe over each area where u removed keys, then follow up with a can of air duster or any brand of compressed air. do u still have warranty on laptop? if u do, after u have tried cleaning ur keyboard, i suggest giving them a call or emailing.

My workstation could purely supply up recognizing bnhy8 or 9 whilst i could kind them. It then began working back after a week or so for a week or so and then it began randomly back whilst vacationing a questionable internet site. i think of it is achieveable for it to be a scourge. the full "grimy" component isn't it, same keys the two situations. i've got heard that it is a quick in the circuit or a unfastened cord in the ribbonlike connection. i in my view think of its a scourge of types. in the event that they have viruses accessible that truly destroy out with making you pay on your records, the this could be achieveable.

Hmmmm...Restart the computer?

Are they stuck, or just not working?

Either way, pry off the keys and clean the keyboard.
